Robinson has agreed to join Cheltenham while Bloomer is out
Former Stafford Rangers manager Phil Robinson has joined Cheltenham Town in a temporary coaching role.
Robinson will initially spend a month at Whaddon Road while assistant manager Bob Bloomer recovers from surgery to a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Bloomer suffered the injury playing in the recent Western Masters tournament for Bristol Rovers.
Meanwhile, 24-year-old defender Gavin Caines has signed a new one-year deal with the club.
Caines is currently recovering from injury and expects to be fit in September.
Downing played alongside Robinson for Wolves and said he was delighted to bring his former team-mate to Whaddon Road to help out in Bloomer's absence.

Bloomer underwent an operation to repair the damage last week. He is currently on crutches and is unable to spend long periods of time on the training field.
"I've known Phil for a long time," Downing told the club website.
"I played alongside him at Wolves in the late 80s and early 90s. He's had a long established career.
"He is a fully qualified coach and I'm delighted that he has agreed to help us out.
"He will be with us for an initial month to start with but it really depends upon how long Bob's injury takes to get right."
Former Southend United and Port Vale striker Michael Husbands and ex-Barnsley defender Rhys Meynell have been invited to join Cheltenham's squad for pre-season training.
