Cambridge United's on-loan striker Scott Rendell has revealed he would return to his parent club Peterborough if they wanted him back at London Road.
Posh are on the verge of promotion to the Championship but the 23-year-old has been loaned to the U's this season.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I don't know what's happening, if they'll sell me or I'll get a chance next year.
"It's Championship football and a fantastic league to be in and a fantastic opportunity."
The former Crawley forward has only made five starts for Peterborough since signing from Cambridge in January 2008.
The two clubs had arranged a deal to bring Rendell back to the Abbey Stadium on a permanent basis in the last transfer window, but that eventually fell through.
Should Posh look to off-load him, Rendell says Cambridge would be top of his list.
"This was the only club I wanted to come back to when I left on loan," he added. "We'll see whether the funds are available.
"I still haven't spoken to anyone at Peterborough's end for a little while. We'll just have to wait and see if I figure in their plans for next season or not."
Rendell scored his first goal in seven games in the 2-1 win over Salisbury last weekend. The result means the U's have an outside chance of snatching promotion from Burton on the final day.
The feat would require Cambridge beating Altrincham by up to four goals and Burton losing to Torquay. Rendell thinks he could be due a timely hat-trick.
He said: "I haven't had one this year and there's no better time than Sunday. Hopefully now I can start showing what I've been playing like for the whole of the season."
