Birmingham City have refused to comment on claims that midfielder Jermaine Pennant faces disciplinary action after being sent home from training.
BBC Radio Five Live's Pat Murphy reported that Pennant was sent home after being deemed "physically incapable of taking part" in training.
"I also understand alcohol was a factor in Pennant's condition," Murphy added.
Birmingham boss Steve Bruce had called his squad in for extra work on Sunday following the 1-0 home loss to Everton.
Pennant is likely to be fined the maximum two weeks wages after the club discusses the matter with the Professional Footballers Association.
It is not the first time the former England Under-21 winger has been in trouble at the club.
He was jailed for drink-driving offences in March, a month before completing a £3m switch from Arsenal.
