Dudek fuels concern
Fulham's Save pounced on a Dudek error
Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier is worried by goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek's poor form - and is considering dropping the Polish international.
The Polish international spilled the ball for the home side's first goal allowing Facundo Sava to pounce on the rebound during Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Loftus Road.
Dudek was also at fault for the goal that saw Liverpool lose at Middlesbrough a fortnight ago. Reserve goalkeeper Chris Kirkland was in superb form in the recent Worthington Cup match with Southampton and is pushing for a first-team place. Asked if Dudek was still his undisputed number one, Houllier said: "It's too early to say as it depends how he feels himself. "Sometimes when you want to respond to the manager's trust, it can go against you. "So we will see. I'm not able to say yes or no. I will assess the situation in the next few days." Houllier also criticised his team's defending in general as Liverpool succumbed to a second defeat in three league games. Houllier admitted his side were enduring a "difficult period," with just two victories in their past seven games in all competitions. After that early goal, Fulham grabbed a second as Sean Davis' shot rebounded off the Argentine striker. "I don't think we played particularly badly but our defending play could have been better and that's a team thing," said Houllier. "One strong aspect of our game has been our defending but it's not at the moment. "That's not about the back four or the goalkeeper but the whole team. "We must make a special effort to defend better. "We have improved in attack but we are letting ourselves down in our defending play. "Never mind that our goalkeeper spilled the ball, we should have been the first to it after that.
"Dudek is like the rest of us, he's going through a bad period." Dietmar Hamann pulled a goal back with a superb free-kick, but Sava struck again as Fulham survived the sending-off of Alain Goma despite Milan Baros' late effort. Fulham had secured just two points from their previous six league games but assistant coach Christian Damiano said the display again showed the spirit in the squad. "This was a very important moment for us to get a result against one of the great teams," said Damiano.
"The goals are very important for Sava as they will give him more confidence but we felt he had trained very well this week and was ready for this game."
