Moyes hails Everton defence
Radzinski, Campbell and Rooney celebrate Everton's win
Everton's Radzinski, Campbell and Rooney celebrate

Everton boss David Moyes paid tribute to goalkeeper Richard Wright and his defenders after their fifth successive Premiership win at Blackburn Rovers.

Kevin Campbell's goal gave Everton a fourth straight 1-0 victory in the league, cementing their best start since 1988.

And Moyes was delighted with his rearguard after another clean sheet.

He said: "We are enjoying the run and the players are enjoying it - you could see that by how hard they had to fight to stay in the game.

"There will be very few teams come to Blackburn and win.

"This was a different type of performance to recent ones but nevertheless we got the same outcome.

"The defenders had to stand up and be the best players, though there was some outstanding forward play when he got the opportunity.

"Richard Wright made a couple of excellent saves and he and the back four are performing really well."

He added: "1-0 wins are the sign of a good team, and sooner or later someone's going to start chanting `boring, boring Everton' but I would hate to think so because I hope my teams try to play and entertain."

Everton are riding high - only goal difference keeps Chelsea above them in third, and Moyes insists there is no reason why his side will not be challenging come the end of the season.

He said: "We're going to try to, we're going to try to do better than third - there's no rule that says Everton can't do that.

"But the first priority for all Premiership teams is to maintain their status and we are no different to anyone else."

Blackburn boss Graham Souness bemoaned his side's luck after they dominated possession.

He said: "Everton are enjoying their luck and riding the crest of a wave, but if we keep playing like that we will be fine. We cannot continue having that much of the ball without getting a break.

"There were two chances just before the final whistle, one for David Thompson one for Andy Cole, and they just would not drop for us.

"We have made two errors defensively, one led to a goal and the other led to a save by Brad Friedel. Other than that we have done nothing wrong but at this level you are made to pay for that."
