1200 BST: Kick-off at Elland Road with Rio Ferdinand lining up against his former club. 1 min: The first jeers for Ferdinand as he thumps a clearance into touch. 8 min: Viduka beats Ferdinand to a Harte corner, but heads well over. 12 mins: Ferdinand and Mills jostle in the Leeds area for a free-kick, but it comes to nothing for the visitors. 14 mins: More boos but Ferdinand keeps calm to clear easily enough.
18 mins: Ferdinand and Barthez both jump to meet a Kewell free-kick, and the ball skims off Ferdinand's head for a Leeds corner. 29 mins: Confusion between Ferdinand and Barthez nearly allows Viduka in for Leeds' opener. 38 mins: An inviting United corner looks Ferdinand-bound - but Silvestre gets in his way. 41 mins: Ferdinand manages to get his header away under a powerful but fair challenge from Viduka. 44 mins: With the Leeds fans subdued by an impressive first half from United - chants of 'Rio!' ring out after another no-nonsense mopping up operation from the 30m man. H-T
58 mins: Ferdinand uses all his 6 ft 3 in frame to shoulder Kewell off the ball in a tussle down the Leeds left flank.
67 mins: Leeds 1-0 Man Utd. 70 mins: Ferdinand's long stride allows him to get in a crucial block as Leeds press for a second goal. 74 mins: Another threatening Harte corner is met with a thumping headed clearance from Ferdinand. 79 mins: A lone voice yells out "What's the score, Rio?", as, once again, a United move breaks down. 83 mins: A sloppy Ferdinand pass is easily picked off by Kewell, but his slip goes unpunished as the shot slides narrowly past the left-hand post. 87 mins: A Beckham corner skims off Ferdinand's head into Kewell's body - but United's appeals for handball are turned away. Ferdinand pushes Harte away as a scuffle breaks out with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
94 mins: Final whistle. Ferdinand leaves the pitch after a largely faultless - but ultimately losing - return to Elland Road.
