A hat-trick by midfielder Danny Whitaker steered Chesterfield to a comfortable win over Hereford.
Whitaker opened the scoring from the spot after keeper Adam Bartlett fouled Jack Lester.
His second was a clever finish from a Lester through ball and he scored a simple third on the hour.
Simon Ford headed the fourth from a corner to complete the demolition of a Bulls side who saw Ryan Valentine miss a penalty when the score was 2-0.
Chesterfield manager John Sheridan told BBC Radio Sheffield: "The most pleasing thing is that you come out winners with the three points.
"Hopefully this will be a confidence builder. It's a good result.
"We had to defend at times and they were always in the game."
Hereford United manager Simon Davey told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "Their finishing was better than ours, and their defending was better than ours.
"I've look at our games over the last couple of weeks and defensively we've been sound and the back four have looked really strong.
"But today we've been at sixes and sevens. We didn't defend well enough."
