Dagenham & Redbridge sealed a place in the League Two play-offs with victory at already-relegated Darlington.
Mark Convery twice fired wide for the hosts before visiting keeper Nick Liversedge failed to come for a Danny Green corner and Jon Nurse headed home.
Green then went close with a free-kick and Josh Scott sealed the points by side-footing in from close range from Paul Benson's low cross.
John Still's men face Morecambe over two-legs in a bid to reach Wembley.
Dagenham and Redbridge manager John Still told BBC Essex:
"It certainly was a nervy day. Away from home in difficult conditions for both teams and we have run out good winners.
"I'm pleased to have got something that was really important for us."
