An early solo strike from Shaun Harrad gave Burton a deserved victory over struggling Cheltenham on Tuesday.
The striker turned and rifled home his 11th goal of the season from 25 yards after just seven minutes.
Robins goalkeeper Scott Brown kept his side in it after that, saving well from Cleveland Taylor and Russell Penn.
Barry Hayles stabbed wide a gilt-edged chance to equalise a minute from time before Cheltenham's Danny Andrew was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates told BBC Radio Gloucestershire :
"I think there is a bit of a thing playing at home at the moment with the boys, and I'm not moaning at the supporters or anything like that.
"There's a lack of confidence in front of our own fans which is disappointing.
"We did what we wanted to do in the second half, we wanted to put them under pressure and have some chances and I felt we did that but you can't give goals away.
"We didn't deal with a second ball that came into our box, we've hesitated and the next thing is there's a 25 yard volley going into the top corner."
Burton Albion assistant manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby:
"We didn't particularly play brilliantly. At times I wanted us to settle down and maybe take a bit more care.
"The manager keeps talking about resilience and we've mentioned a collective responsibility to defending which I think we've had in the last five games now.
"As soon as we lose possession, everyone is responsible, it's not just the back four. And I think you see that in the goals we haven't conceded."
