Gavin McCallum's goal gave Hereford victory over fellow strugglers Torquay.
McCallum broke the deadlock with a flicked close-range finish, almost doubling the lead soon after when he fired against the post from 15 yards.
Hereford dominated early on but Torquay improved after the break and went close to pulling a goal back when Elliot Benyon and Adam Smith both fired wide.
Benyon also saw a header bounce back off the post but the Bulls held firm to claim a valuable win.
Hereford United manager John Trewick told BBC Hereford & Worcester:
"We had to dig in at times in the second half as they were throwing everything at us.
"But you would expect they would as they were 1-0 down and playing a side not very far above them.
"They hit the post with a header but, apart from that, I am not sure they had too many clear-cut chances."
Torquay United manager Paul Buckle told BBC Radio Devon:
"It's a very, very difficult time for us all at the moment.
"The one positive today was the supporters again. They waited for the players afterwards and clapped us off the pitch.
"We're in a difficult spell, the players know it and we need to be better as a group."
