Macclesfield keeper Jon Brain's late howler gifted Port Vale three points as they won a nervous derby match.
Five minutes from time Adnan Ahmed let fly with a speculative 40-yard drive which the keeper let slip through his fingers and bobble across the line.
Vale sub Louis Dodds crashed a half-volley into the roof of the net deep in injury time to seal the win.
The Cheshire team have now taken only one point from their last 18 and were second best for much of the match.
