Carlisle gatecrashed the Carrow Road party as Norwich's superb season ended as it began - with a home defeat.
Greg Abbott's mid-table side scored twice in the opening seven minutes to overcome the League One champions.
Gary Madine latched on to a pass from Jason Price to steer the ball past Fraser Forster after only 55 seconds.
Six minutes later, Price got the final touch to an Ian Harte free-kick to make it 2-0 and the Canaries could not find a way back into the match.
Paul Lambert's side, who had won 16 out of their previous 18 home matches, had chances to level before the break, Korey Smith wasting the best of them.
The young midfielder took the ball round keeper Adam Collin but his shot lacked sufficient pace and was cleared off the line by Harte.
Norwich started the second half well, with Collin saving from Darel Russell, but Carlisle had plenty of the play themselves in the second half and were well worth their win.
Norwich manager Paul Lambert told BBC Radio Norfolk:
"It was a hard start to the season but we've proven that we've been the best team in the league.
"I'm delighted for everybody at the football club. They deserve it. They've been brilliant for me all season.
"We have to try and drive the club on and try and get players in to give them a hand."
