Kyel Reid's ferocious 20-yard strike earned promotion-chasing Charlton a draw after Huddersfield had led.
Reid ripped his shot into the bottom right corner of the net after a weak clearance fell to him kindly.
Huddersfield, looking for a first win of the season against a top-six side, scored first when a looping Jordan Rhodes header dropped into the net.
That woke the Addicks up for their best spell of a tepid encounter as Therry Racon pulled the strings in midfield.
Charlton Athletic manager Phil Parkinson told BBC London 94.9:
"It was an important point for us and well deserved.
"It was a very disciplined performance, coming into the game without our two top scorers, Deon Burton and Nicky Bailey."
