Jon Parkin poked home deep into injury time to rescue a dramatic point and net a valuable draw for promotion-chasers Preston against Sheffield Wednesday.
Francis Jeffers looked to have secured the win for the Owls when he stabbed in Sean McAllister's cross on 30 minutes.
However, Parkin fired home left-footed from 12 yards late on to snatch a point that was harsh on Wednesday.
Owls boss Brian Laws was sent to the stands after protesting furiously about his inability to bring on a substitute.
Preston manager Alan Irvine:
"I'm delighted with the character the lads showed. We have been tested tonight, that's for sure.
"We have had a lot of problems before and during the game which have really stretched what is obviously a small squad.
"But we have managed to grind something out. We have salvaged a point from a very, very difficult situation.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws:
"My only thoughts are angry thoughts because I'm trying to be as professional as I possibly can and 92 football clubs would have wanted to do what I wanted to do - to slow the game down and put a sub on.
"The referee totally blanked the fourth official. We tried three times to put a sub on. The fourth official buzzed him several times and he totally ignored it.
"For me it feels as if he has ended our season. It was the best performance of the year by us by a mile. I feel like it's cut our chances of getting anywhere closer to the play-offs.
"It's the biggest travesty this season, the fact that we have not won the game. From start to finish we bossed them and out-thought them and moved the ball on a super surface.
"We were outstanding in the way we interlinked. They could not cope with the movement of the ball or the play."
Preston:
