Promotion-chasing Histon all but ended Wrexham's play-off chances with a narrow win at the Glass World Stadium.

Josh Simpson got the game's only goal after half-an-hour, turning in Gareth Gwillim's free kick at the far post.

Wrexham, without manager Dean Saunders who was away with Wales, rallied in the second half but ran out of ideas.

Histon could have doubled the lead in injury time through Jack Midson, but Wrexham's debutant goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen saved his penalty.
