Hick retains Test ambition
![]() Hick: One-dayers are not enough
Worcestershire skipper Graeme Hick refuses to accept that his Test career is over.
He was not awarded an England contract for the summer after a series of poor scores in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. But Hick believes he still has something to offer at Test level and has set his sights on scoring "a truckload of runs" for his county to keep himself in the minds of the selectors. "I've not had a good winter. England played well as a side and it was fantastic to win both Test series but it was certainly not my best winter personally," he said. "If you don't get many runs and you don't perform, then you don't expect too much. "But I'm still ambitious to play for England. I'm only 34, I'm still pretty fit and I see a lot of cricket ahead of me. It's up to me to make sure my name is in the hat." Hick has scored 3,383 runs in 65 Test appearances at an average of 31.32, including six centuries, but it has been a stop-start career since his debut in 1991. He has been dropped and recalled on 10 occasions, but rival Michael Vaughan now appears certain to start the summer in the England side, providing he does not have any injury problems. Hick remains a leading member of England's one-day side, having made 3,846 runs in 120 matches, but is not content to settle for that. "I still want to be playing Test cricket. First of all I've got a job to do here now with Worcestershire, but I've still got other goals beyond that I want to achieve."
