Ireland select experienced squad

Eoin Morgan of Middlesex and Ireland
Eoin Morgan will be back for Ireland's World Cup qualifying campaign

Ireland coach Phil Simmons has named an experienced squad for April's World Cup qualifier in South Africa.

The return of Eoin Morgan, at the expense of Phil Eaglestone, is the only change from the squad which won the Intercontinental Cup in November.

Ten of the squad played for Ireland in the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.

Ireland will play their first game against Scotland on 1 April. The other teams in their groups are Canada, Namibia, Oman and Uganda.

Coach Phil Simmons said: "With so much at stake in terms of qualification, and the associated financial rewards, there are bound to be a lot of pressure games, and I think the squad that has been selected is better placed than most to handle it.

"They have been in a lot of tough games over the years and acquitted themselves superbly.

"There is a good balance to the squad and having so many quality all-rounders gives us lots of options.

"The players have all worked hard and they all know what it means to play on the world stage."

Ireland squad: W Porterfield, A Botha, P Connell, A Cusack, T Johnston, K McCallan, J Mooney, E Morgan, K O'Brien, N O'Brien, A Poynter, B Rankin, R West, A White, G Wilson.
