Smith was named as Durham captain in 2008

Durham captain Will Smith says his side were "found wanting" during their 56-run defeat by Kent in the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals. Chasing 150 to win, Durham were all out for 93 with 16 balls remaining - their lowest ever score in the competition. Captain Smith said Monday's defeat was a poor night. "It's disappointing but that's the nature of Twenty 20 cricket, sometimes you can get abnormally low scores," he told BBC Radio Newcastle. Phil Mustard, Dave Warner and Ian Blackwell were all out for a duck as only Dale Benkenstein and Kyle Coezter reached double figures for Geoff Cook's side, in front of a crowd of 8,000 at the St Lawrence Ground. Smith added: "It's just unfortunate on this occasion it happened in quite a big game - a quarter-final.

We'll draw a line under it and move on, and hope for better things in the Pro40 and in the Championship

"Twenty20 cricket is there to be enjoyed but it's also very serious now. We're out of this competition but we've got two other competitions to win." "We're learning, we're still a very young side and we've got guys in there who need to learn quicker - myself included - but we will do. "We'll draw a line under it and move on, and hope for better things in the Pro40 and in the Championship." Durham face Sussex at the Riverside on Friday and Smith said the players must now turn their attentions back to the County Championship, where they hold a commanding lead after nine matches. "We've got to move on and take Friday as the important one now," he said. "We've got seven games left in the Championship, if we look to win each game and do that in three or four of them then we'll be in a pretty decent position come the end of the season."
