606: DEBATE
|
Lancashire captain Glen Chapple started the day by bowling left-arm spinners Keedy and Simon Kerrigan in tandem and it was latter who made the first breakthrough. The visitors had added 22 to their overnight score when nightwatchman Mitch Claydon was bowled by Kerrigan for eight. Keedy, who took seven wickets in the first innings, was causing problems at the other end and had a couple of lbw shouts turned down against Di Venuto, but the opener reached his half century off 103 balls. Benkenstein survived a run-out chance on 16 when Steven Croft missed the stumps at the non-striker's end. Keedy's third wicket of the innings and 10th of the match, came as Croft made amends by brilliantly catching Di Venuto at mid-wicket. Ian Blackwell (20 not out) survived a dropped catch first ball by Mark Chilton at short-leg off Keedy and the visitors went to lunch on 142-4, needing 29 more runs to win. Paul Horton then put down a tough chance at slip off the bat of Benkenstein after the break. Benkenstein and Blackwell steered Durham to victory and away from the relegation zone.
