Pettini had not previously passed 50 for Essex in this year's Pro40

Mark Pettini iced Saturday's County Championship promotion by hitting a century as his side rounded off their season with a Pro40 win over Yorkshire. Pettini's unbeaten 101 steered Essex to a seven-wicket victory at Headingley after Graham Napier's 4-33 had restricted the home side to 185-7. Yorkshire debutant Joe Root made 63 on his first appearance. But Pettini's run-a-ball effort rapidly ensured that it was not enough as Essex won with 39 deliveries to spare. Essex captain Mark Pettini told BBC Essex: "There were some tired legs out there and a few headaches, but we came here to win.
"We hoped to get as far up the table as far as we could, although I think Worcestershire won, which means we've finished fourth, which is a shame. "But every game is important to us, even after being promoted the day before."
