Pro40 Div Two, The Oval:
Somerset 258-9 beat Surrey 253-9 by five runs
Somerset won promotion to Division One of the NatWest Pro40 as Surrey just failed to match their efforts in an exciting floodlit match at The Oval.
Marcus Trescothick got the visitors off to a flier with 124 off 101 balls.
But Jade Dernbach took 5-44 to prevent a huge total and on an excellent batting pitch Surrey's target was 259.
Mark Ramprakash underpinned the chase with an effortless 115, but when he was run out in the final over the Brown Caps' chances went with him.
Ten runs were wanted off the last five balls when Ramprakash drove to long on and sprinted for the second run in a determined bid to keep the strike.
But he was comfortably run out by Wes Durston's excellent return and when Neil Saker chipped Steffan Jones to Justin Langer at mid-wicket, number 11 Dernbach had to hit a six to win it.
He failed to make contact and Somerset could celebrate.
The Ramprakash run-out was one of four to derail the Surrey innings, the first coming when Ramprakash and his skipper Mark Butcher ended up at the same end with Ian Blackwell bowling.
Surrey were seemingly coasting to victory at that point, on 185-2 and needing just a run a ball to get home.
But Ali Brown fell in similar circumstances and Somerset made the pressure count.
