Ireland had to be content with a draw against Kenya in the rain-affected Intercontinental Cup clash after the Africans produced a dogged last day. After starting the day at 139-4, the Irish declared at 224-7 to set Kenya an unrealistic 298 to win in 70 overs. Kenya were in trouble at 82-4 in the 28th over but Collins Obuya's 84 helped the Africans earn a battling draw as they finished on 245-8 at Eglinton. The Irish did earn six bonus points because of their first-innings lead. Alex Cusack started the day on 55 not out but he was immediately out, caught and bowled by Elijah Otieno. Andrew White, 25 not out on the resumption, went on to hit an unbeaten 59 while Gary Wilson also contributed 39 before the Irish declaration left the home side with 70 overs to bowl out the Africans. A home victory looked on when Trent Johnston dismissed both Seren Waters and David Obuya and Regan West and Kyle McCallan also struck to leave the Africans struggling on 82-4 in the 28th over. McCallan's victim was Steve Tikolo, Kenya's top-scorer in the first innings. However, Collins Obuya and captain Maurice Ouma put on 103 for the fifth wicket to steady the Kenyan innings. Three late Regan West wickets had the Africans hanging on but time then ran out for the home side as Thomas Odoyo's 13 not out helped the visitors secure the draw that they just about deserved. The sides meet in three one-day games in Clontarf later this week, starting with Thursday's clash. Ireland next face Scotland in the Intercontinental Cup in Aberdeen from 17-20 August.
