Peter Gough top scored for Jersey with 51 (ICC Cricket Europe)

Jersey made a good start to the ICC European Division Two Championships in Guernsey, beating Croatia by six wickets on Monday.

The islanders reached the target of 127 with more than twenty overs to spare.

Coach Peter Kirsten told BBC Radio: "It was an excellent win, very positive. The first game is always important in any tournament."

Jersey bowled and fielded tightly for 50 overs and restricted the Croatian team from scoring freely.

Croatian skipper John Vujnovich was the only batsman to make any score of note with a solid 44.

Ryan Driver, Chris Jones and Bradley Vowden all claimed two wickets each.

In reply Jersey opener Peter Gough top scored with 51, and his opening partner Chris Jones made 32 and Jonny Gough added a quick-fire 26.

Kirsten's team will now play France at Port Soif on Tuesday in their second match of the tournament.

But he will not be taking them lightly after they recorded a comfortable victory over Germany.

"We are really going to have to put the ball in the right areas against France, we are going to have to be at our best," he said.
