Sanath Jayasuriya will miss Sri Lanka's one-day series in Australia as he recovers from a shoulder injury.
Jayasuriya, 36, dislocated his shoulder in August and aggravated it after slipping in the shower in New Zealand.
Sri Lanka are desperate to halt a run of eight defeats in their last nine matches in India and New Zealand.
Avishka Gunawardene and Lasith Malinga are dropped for batsmen Michael Vandort and Chamara Kapugedara, and medium-pace bowler Nuwan Kulasekara.
Sri Lanka, who have a game remaining in New Zealand on Sunday open the VB Series against Australia next Friday in Melbourne.
South Africa are the third team in the tournament, with the best-of-three finals series begins in Adelaide on 10 February.
