Former Australia captain Richie Benaud will chair the judges for next month's International Cricket Council awards.
Benaud joins Ian Botham, Sunil Gavaskar, Michael Holding and Barry Richards on the selection panel.
"I know that he regards this as a great honour to lead an illustrious group of former champions," said ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed.
The group must decide shortlists for four individual awards, and choose the Tests and one-day teams of the year.
Benaud, now a highly-respected broadcaster, said: "The first thing about being on a five-person panel of this kind is for us to realise what degree of difficulty lies ahead."
"The main problem will be in excluding players from the short-list, even though they are brilliant cricketers."
The inaugural ceremony is to be held at London¿s Alexandra Palace on 7 September.
