Commonwealth Games will be tough - Daley

Plymouth diver Tom Daley says he is close to regaining peak fitness in time for the Commonwealth Games.

The 16-year-old has recently returned from a tricep injury which ruled him out of August's European Championships.

Daley told BBC Spotlight: "It has been quite good since I got back and I haven't had any pain in my arm.

"I really want to get a Commonwealth medal, but whether that happens we'll have to wait and see because the preparation hasn't been great."

He added: "I've been taking it quite gradually because it can be quite tight after training sessions, and if I dive on it when it's too tight - it could tear again."

Daley was crowned World Champion on the 10m platform in 2009, a success he is hoping to replicate in Delhi.

He said: "I guess I will be disappointed if I don't medal because it's the Commonwealth Games and I'm disappointed if I don't medal in any competition - so it's about going out there and giving it my best shot."

The Plymouth-born diver is currently at a training camp in Leeds before the England team head to Delhi on 4 October.

And with a mass of negative publicity surrounding the Games, Daley said: "I just have to trust Commonwealth Games England and trust what they say.

"At the moment all I can do is concentrate on the performance that I'm giving."
