Merrien was aiming for a second GB squad selection
Guernsey athlete Lee Merrien is likely to have just missed out on a place in the six-man British team for the European Cross Country Championships.
Merrien finished ninth overall at the second UK cross country challenge event in Liverpool at the weekend.
He was the sixth British senior to cross the line.
Merrien said: "That probably means I'm going to agonisingly miss out by one spot, which will be confirmed in the next day or too."
He explained: "They take a team of six. Out of the three guys ahead of me, two are not British athletes and one guy is likely to run in the Under-23s, so I was sixth senior finisher.
"I think they'll probably just pick five, because one guy will be pre-selected in the form of Mo Farah, British number one."
