Sebastian Vettel said Red Bull had ambitions to become the best team in Formula 1 after steering them to their first ever Grand Prix victory in China.

Team-mate Mark Webber completed a one-two as Red Bull proved quicker than pre-race favourites Brawn in the wet.

"We will try and stay on top and make the final step to be the best team on the grid," said 21-year-old Vettel.

"I'm very happy the car is fast already... and hoping it gets better and better throughout the season."

Vettel drove magnificently in treacherous conditions in Shanghai and sits third in the drivers' championship 11 points behind leader Jenson Button - who finished third in China - and five points behind the Englishman's Brawn team-mate Rubens Barrichello.

Red Bull's achievement was all the more remarkable for the fact they suffered reliability problems with their cars on Saturday and were worried they may not even finish the race.

The mechanics fixed a problem with the driveshaft overnight and the cars ran faultlessly throughout.

"In qualifying we did a good job but nevertheless we were struggling a bit with the reliability," Vettel said.

"But we were able to fix it overnight.

"We found the problem and that speaks for the quality of our team and everybody was just trying to fix it.

"A double win for Red Bull is incredible and I am extremely happy."

The British-based team were clearly superior in wet conditions to Brawn, with Button admitting that he could see their superior performance on a slippy track as tried to chase down Webber and Vettel.

"In the wet we don't have the pace compared to them," he said.

"You can see it in high speed corners, they can keep a really tight line. We are not going through the water - it feels we are just floating across the surface. It's costing us quite a bit of time.

"In the dry I think we would have been a lot more competitive."

Qualifying proved that the Brawns are still the quickest car in the dry - when the weights of the cars were published afterwards, it emerged that fourth-placed Barrichello was running with 18kg more fuel than Vettel and that, fuel-corrected, he and Button were the fastest drivers.

Red Bull sporting director Christian Horner said the team planned developments to the car in the coming weeks.

"The car's been very good in high speed corners and its got a great aerodynamic package," he said.

"Imagine when we get our double diffuser."

That was a reference to the controversial part at the back of an F1 car from which Brawn, Williams and Toyota have been gaining extra pace.

Red Bull, along with Ferrari, McLaren and BMW Sauber, appealed against the legality of the way in which those teams had used it.

But, on Wednesday, motor sport's governing body ruled it to be legal and other teams are now setting about introducing the part to their cars in a bid to gain more speed.
