Australia are seeking a third straight World Cup title but are in disarray after losing their last five one-day matches.
The Aussies lost to England in the final of the Commonwealth Bank series and crashed to a 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand, losing their place at the top of the one-day standings for the first time since October 2002.
In their defence, Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist were rested against the Kiwis, while Andrew Symonds and Brett Lee were injured. Matthew Hayden misses the World Cup start with a broken toe.
