Following their disappointing defeat in the second Test against New Zealand, the Lions dusted themselves down and recorded victory in the midweek clash with Auckland.
The Lions midweek side wanted to impress with the third Test looming large as well as trying to restore some lost pride.

I watched the game in town last weekend - the Lions fans were fantastic. Take a bow and it was fun to party with you. My must watch DVD - Lions 1971 - they beat us and we loved them. I wish I didn't have to wait another 12 years.
1542 BST: Wes, Tamworth
Another appalling refereeing performance, this time from Steve Walsh. The standard of refereeing on this tour has been totally unacceptable.
1525 BST: Ian Schofield, Penang, Malaysia
I agree with all before, Well done the Lions. New Zealand is not the easiest place to go and come home with the spoils of series victory, nor is it the place to go and come back with, as it is now inherently obvious, any form of credit for the efforts the team have put in over the last six weeks. The New Zealand press and commentators we have had to endure following the Lions in Malaysia has comprehensively ruined the tour for me. Yes, the All Blacks are a good side, we have all witnessed that on the field, but to have it further rammed down our throats from narrow minded and tunnel visioned media has only tarnished my personal opiniion of a nation who can, and who has, played exceptional rugby to secure the series win.
1523 BST: Dick, Milton Keynes
Winning in Auckland shows the other side of SCW's foresight - taking a big tour party south and being able to field two effective teams was right. We should know what it takes to produce a world beating side. NZ have bettered England's example, just for now. Let the Lions win ball Saturday and have more possession for all that talent to score with.
1504 BST: Ian Robertson, Radio Five Live
It was not just about the win over Auckland but the manner of the victory. It was a tremendous performance and it had the stamp of Ian McGeechan all over it. The pack was well drilled and the defensive organisation and intensity was just what you would expect from a McGeechan-coached side. This was a very good Auckland side and this game was regarded as the hardest match of tour outside the Tests.
1402 BST: Roger Huw Jones, Tokyo
Well done to the Lions in beating Auckland. It showed great character. And all the best to them for the last Test. I would love nothing more than to see them beat the All Blacks, even if the series is no longer at stake. Any side registering a win over this current Kiwi mob will have to play one hell of a game of rugby.
1339 BST: Graeme Overlunde, Sri Lanka
I'm a die hard All Blacks supporter but the Lions should be proud of their efforts. I waited as long as every Kiwi did to see this tour and the results have been brilliant. Take nothing away from the spirit of the Lions players, they gave it all they had. This is a game played by gentleman no matter what the press has to say about it and I'm sure the Lions will take back lots of good memories too. Meeting old friends and making some new ones. As the saying goes "I'd rather lose at rugby than win at football".
1253 BST: Mike, London
If this tour has taught us anything, it is to keep things simple. For instance, pick your players on form, it's then easy the for all to know what they have to do. This has been the major failure of the tour management. SCW is a talented manager, but he forgot the basics. Also, having the likes of infamous spin doctors around does not help and brings discredit to the team - it is the Lions and the AB's that need to be influenced, not the folk who listen to Campbell's rubbish. The AB's would have won this series regardless of our efforts, I just wish we could hold our heads a little higher.
1251 BST: Bongo, Bath
Just got back from the Auckland match. Great atmosphere. With the large amount of lineout ball won, the Lions should have won by more but their handling was poor. Dawson played well, the Auckland line-out was terrible and their fly-half was diabolical. Bring back Carlos Spencer! Eden Park has a fantastic atmosphere....bring on Saturday! ( but don't waste your time catching the train!!...almost passed out in the sauna!).
1226 BST: Eric, Kampala, Uganda
Going by results and usage of player resources, maybe Ian McGeechan should have been the Lions' head coach. Otherwise, Tests should be played midweek on the South African tour. The Boks have very impressive young talent coming through, so it might do the Lions good to think that far ahead.
This tour has been wrong from the word go. Maybe Sir Clive Woodward should try his hand at soccer.
1225 BST: Colin Grant, Manchester
Good all-round performance from Cueto. Plain to see that he has had more of an impact on the wing than Jason Robinson, possibly because his relatively few international appearances to date mean teams are slightly unaware of his capabilities.
1034 BST: Jason Leonard, Radio Five Live
We had to hang on in the end, they had opportunities to pull away and make the score even greater. What was fantastic was how the squad pulled together. The midweek side are unbeaten and that will mean a lot to them.
1028 BST: Brew, Bridgend
Just watched another performance, have to admit it that the NZ teams have been up for the games more than the Lions. One thing that does appear evident is the differing style of refereeing from north to south, need continuity and clearer instruction from IRB.
0958 BST: Jez Tee, Pembrokeshire
How on earth are you going to win a Test series in NZ with a spin doctor in the party? What the hell is Alistair Campbell doing in the party and 'pep talking ' the squad? NZ squad is better prepared because they work on basic skills basic fitness and basic strength training.
0927 BST: Ross, Bath
Watching the Lions vs. Auckland tonight I cannot see how SCW could not pick Hodgson in the Test squad. Put him up against Jonny and there is no contest. Even O'Gara is showing what they were missing by having a has-been at stand off.
0920 BST: Nosh the Hammers fan, Auckland, New Zealand
All Blacks have such talent and depth in the squad at the moment, and if Graham Henry keeps this team together like SCW did with England World Cup team then the public here may get the ultimate prize in rugby. The British and Irish fans are the best in the world! They spend a fortune travelling the globe supporting our sportsmen, win or lose, making friends and admirers... I am proud to be from the UK.
0912 BST: Richard Emmerson, Broughton Astley
I was in New Zealand last October and the Kiwis were talking about the Lions tour then. There's no wonder they've shown us how to do it when they have been so focussed for so long!
0901 BST: Noel Hughes, St. Petersburg, Russia
Being in Russia I have only been able to follow the Lions tour through the BBC website. I would like to thank all who have a made a contribution on the NZ Tour Blog. Clearly you have all (Lions and NZ supporters alike) thoroughly enjoyed the experience and views expressed represent those of true fans of rugby. Hope you all enjoy the rest of the tour and only wish I was there with you!!!
0859 BST: Jason Leonard, Radio Five Live
We have ambition but every time the Lions do something well, we lose the ball for some ridiculous reason. It is the story of this tour. We are not capitalising on Auckland's mistakes.
0755 BST: Ian McGeechan, Lions midweek coach
The thought that this could be my last Lions tour has crossed my mind in the last 24 hours and I am sure some of the players have thought the same. They just have to do the shirt proud. This is a big week for us to stand up and show what we are about and that starts today.
0747 BST: Gordon Bulloch, Lions captain for the Auckland game
It is a bit of a depressed camp but we still have a lot to play for. This is the midweek team's Test match. Auckland have upset the Lions on the last two occasions so it is going to be tough.
0736 BST: Jennifer Northover, New Zealand
The Lions supporters are a real credit. They are good-spirited and well-behaved in the face of what must be for them disappointing performances when they have travelled so far. Britain and Ireland can be proud of their ambassadors.
0452 BST: Dave, Stu, Nick, Coventry
Having the time of our lives out here, the Kiwis are a great bunch made us all so welcome. Very friendly and helpful where ever you go, and they love to rip the **** about the results!.. as expected! Apart from two hours every Saturday night, it has been an awesome trip!.. roll on another 12 years time!
0340 BST: Adam, Wellington
To Paul and the rest of the Lions supporters who conducted themselves so proudly on Saturday, I offer an apology on behalf of the vast majority of New Zealanders. Yes, I saw as well some juvenile behaviour from some immature locals (who appeared not to have been at the game), unable to hold their drink. It was a shameful response to what has been an overwhelmingly positive interaction with the Lions supporters. I had a beer before, during and after the game with them and without exception they'd be welcome back at my place for a BBQ.
0203 BST: Colin McCabe, Sydney, Australia
Why the animosity towards Clive Woodward? His record speaks for itself and I don't believe any coach in the world could have done any better when taking into consideration the whole Lions concept. Give the guy a break!
0106 BST: Paul Clarkson, Wellington, NZ
The Lions tour has rejuvenated a real interest in the game. It was great having the colourful Barmy Army here and their departure for Auckland has left the city a relatively drab place. To let you in on a secret, I wore a red shirt (to support the underdogs) during the Tests, even though I'm a Kiwi. The tour has made a good platform for the rugby tour to Britain and Ireland later this year.
