Lawrence Dallaglio is considering a comeback for England, one year after retiring from international rugby.
The 32-year old Wasps star, a World Cup winner in 2003, is recovering from the broken ankle he sustained with the British and Irish Lions in New Zealand.
He says he would return for England if he could play in the 2007 World Cup.
Dallaglio told the Daily Express: "It is not about just coming back for a few games. It would have to be with my sights set on France 2007."
He added: "I would be considerably younger than a lot of members who won the last World Cup."
The veteran number eight cited family reasons when he stepped down from Test duty last year after England's unsuccessful tour of New Zealand.
But he is thinking about declaring himself available for England again, saying: "I made that decision based on how I felt physically and mentally at the time.
"When I went on the Lions tour I was in the best shape ever.
"I wouldn't want to rule out the possibility of a return. It is something that has to be thought about very seriously."

Andy Robinson knows there is no need to rush any conversation with me - I do have some time on my hands

Dallaglio is back in light training after fracturing his right ankle in the Lions' win over Bay of Plenty in Rotorua on 4 June.
But he says he is not aiming to play for England in their autumn Tests against New Zealand and South Africa.
"I would not see it as an option," Dallaglio said.
"At this stage I haven't had any discussions with (England coach) Andy Robinson. I know he has a lot of things on his plate.
"He knows there is no need to rush any conversation with me - I do have some time on my hands."
