Rampant Ponty run Scots ragged
Pontypridd's Richard Parks tangles with Andrew Dall
Richard Parks drives through the Edinburgh defence
Pontypridd 59-27 Edinburgh

Pontypridd ended their Welsh-Scottish League season in grand style with a convincing win over Scottish visitors Edinburgh.

This was an exciting and entertaining free-running clash where Pontypridd ran in nine superb tries in a brilliant team effort in which the pack were rampant.

Wing Gareth Wyatt, centre Jonathan Bryant and outside half Ceri Sweeney also gave outstanding performances.

Pontypridd made a sensational start when Wyatt scored the opening try after only 23rd seconds. Brett Davey converted.

  Scoring details
Pontypridd (19) 59:
Tries: Davey, Wyatt 2, Parker 2, S. James, Sweeney 2, Baber.
Cons: Sweeney 7.
Edinburgh (8) 27:
Tries: Utterson 2, Scott, Smith.
Cons: Hodge 2.
Pens: Hodge.
Att: 3,000
After this initial shock, Edinburgh came more into the action but full-back Brendan Laney was just wide with a 30 metre drop-goal effort.

The visitors continued to have the better of the exchanges and in the 20th minute hooker Steve Scott crashed over at the corner.

Pontypridd soon hit-back though after skilful handling by the forwards saw Gethin Jenkins put Sweeney over for a try that Davey converted.

Minutes later Ponty struck again with a fine touchdown from wing Shaun James.

Right on the interval Edinburgh cut the deficit to 19-8 with a Duncan Hodge penalty.

One-way traffic

Ponty began the second half with a bang.

A break from the halfway line from centre Jonathan Bryant left the defence helpless and when challenged near the line put Sonny Parker over near the post for a try.

Minutes later, Sweeney jinked and swerved from the halfway line to sprint over for a superb try.

The one-way traffic continued as further Ponty touchdowns came from Davey, Wyatt and Gareth Baber.

Ponty then made sweeping changes that allowed Edinburgh to hit back with a touchdown from Kevin Utterson, converted by Hodge.

The scoring continued right until the final whistle.

Ponty continued on top adding a try from Sonny Parker, but Edinburgh had the final word with tries from Craig Smith and Utterson.
