USPGA day two as it happened
Phil Mickelson survives a double-bogey six for a second-round 65 to lead the USPGA by three shots on eight under.

Davis Love III, Lee Westwood and Rory Sabbatini share second on four under until Jerry Kelly matches Mickelson's 65 to move to five under.

The other main story is Tiger Woods' battle to avoid the first major cut of his professional career.

He rallies after a bad start but a poor second shot at the 17th means he only scrapes through with a birdie at 18.

UPDATES FROM THE COURSE (All times BST)

0005: Bernhard Langer, who had earlier threatened the leaders, finishes two over for the round, level par for the championship.

2345: Only a handful of players either side of the cut mark are still out on the course.

2315: A good drive is followed by an inspired seven iron as Woods sets himself up with a chance of an eagle to finish off a dramatic round. His eagle put curls just wide but he sinks for the birdie he needs for a round of 69, to stay in the competition.

2255: After a long drive on the 17th, a clearly annoyedTiger Woods finds the left-hand bunker. He is forced to play sideways out of the bunker and lofts his fourth to within 20 feet of the pin. His putt goes round the rim and stays out, and he holes out for a six. Woods needs a birdie from the final hole to avoid the first major cut of his professional career.

2240: Jerry Kelly moves clear in second place on five under, matching leader Phil Mickelson's round of 65 with a birdie at the final hole.

2230: Tiger Woods moves to the cut line of four over with another birdie at the 14th. Colin Montgomerie finishes off with an eagle three for a round of 73, but his total of ten over par will not be enough for him to make the cut.

2220: Bernhard Langer's visit to the top reaches of the leaderboard is short-lived as he slips back to three under par.

2150: Jerry Kelly moves into a share of second place after sinking a long birdie putt at the 15th.

2140: A beautifully judged Tiger Woods putt gives him a birdie at the 12th, to move to within one shot of the projected cut.

2130: Bernhard Langer moves up to a share of second place on four under after a birdie at the ninth.

2120: A three at the 11th lifts Tiger Woods' hopes of managing to escape the cut.

2100: Michael Campbell's resurgence continues as a birdie at the 10th takes him to one over par. Woods' birdie putt from the edge of the green stops about two feet short and he has to settle for a par.

2048: Tiger Woods pars the ninth to reach the turn seven over par.

2045: After 10 holes, Colin Montgomerie is eight over par. On the outer fringes of the leaderboard, Bernhard Langer is three under after six holes and Jerry Kelly is three under after 11 holes.

2035: Tiger Woods' round gets worse as he bogies again, at the eighth, with his second three putt of the round, to go seven over.

2020: Tiger Woods winces as he narrowly misses out on a birdie at the seventh when his putt goes just beyond the hole, leaving him on six over par, 14 shots off the lead and two shots over the projected cut.

2005: Joint first-round leader Ben Curtis remains on three under par after six holes. At the sixth, Woods produces a stunning second shot to set up his second birdie of the round.

1951: At the fifth, Michael Campbell drops his first shot of the day, while Woods gets his first par. At the moment, the cut looks likely to be at four over par. After five holes Campell is on four over, Woods is seven over.

1926: On the fourth, Tiger Woods finds the water with his second shot and is forced to play from the drop zone, but play is temporarily halted when a large tree branch falls by the side of the fourth fairway, breaking the leg of a television cameraman. When play resumes, Woods cards his third successive bogey.

1920: Tiger Woods drops another shot at the third. After five holes of his second round, Colin Montgomerie remains well out of contention on six over par. Padraig Harrington has just teed off.
