Bruce angry at Sunderland 'stupidity'
Sunderland midfielder Steed Malbranque was taken to hospital with severe chest pains after he complained of discomfort during the 1-1 draw with Portsmouth.
The 30-year-old Frenchman had to be subsituted at half-time, with Bolo Zenden taking his place.
"He had severe chest pains," said Black Cats boss Steve Bruce after his side failed to win for the 12th league game.
"It was cause of concern for the medics and the doctors have whisked him off to hospital," added Bruce.
"I thought it initially it was a bang to his ribs, but I'm in the dark as to the diagnosis."
Malbranque joined Sunderland on a four-year deal in July 2008.
Aruna Dindane equalised in the 96th minute to earn Portsmouth a draw against Sunderland, who finished the game with nine men after Lee Cattermole and David Meyler were sent off.
