Wilson has been in charge at Pools since June 2006
Hartlepool United boss Danny Wilson believes the club could have been involved in the promotion mix-up if performances had been more consistent.
"It's OK being caught up in the relegation fight but, as much as it is exciting, if you get sucked in it can be a real downer," he told BBC Tees.
"We're only a couple of wins away from being involved at the other end and that's what has frustrated us.
"Throughout the season there's been incidents that have cost us momentum."
Pools' goalscoring threat has been curtailed with injuries to top-scorer Richie Barker, and more recently Australian striker Joel Porter, and Wilson admitted their presence has been a big loss.

"Richie is still struggling. He got quite close to play a few weeks ago but then he broke down and had a relapse," he said.
"Joel was very similar, he'll be OK the week after next but it is still a blow."
"We don't really have the bodies in our squad to cope with these absentees."
