St Saviour needed extra time to beat Trinity 2-1 in the preliminary round of Jersey football's Trinity Shield at Les Quennevais on Thursday.
Trinity's Jack Stirling had a penalty saved by Max Jouan in the 23rd minute with the score goalless.
Darren Quintal put St Saviour ahead but Aaron Young replied before half-time.
Neither side could find the net in the second half but Island defender James Hayward won the tie in extra time to seal a quarter final with St Brelade.
It was the closest that St Saviour have come to being beaten by a team other than reigning champions St Clement since an eight-man St Saviour side lost to St Brelade in the semi-finals of the Trinity Shield in 2003.
