England diver Leon Taylor has withdrawn from the Commonwealth Games because of a shoulder complaint.
The 28-year-old was the favourite with fellow Olympic silver medallist Peter Waterfield in the 10m synchronised platform event.
Taylor had revealed on Sunday he was pulling out of the 10m individual platform to focus on the team event.
But he bowed out of the Games altogether on Monday, leaving 16 other English divers in the competition.
"I've had three lots of surgery on it, the last one was at the end of last year. It's been pretty close here, but I've just run out of time," said the Cheltenham-born athlete, who now lives in Sheffield.
"The medical team here have been fantastic. I've received intensive treatment since I've been here. It's been up and down, but unfortunately I've run out of time.
"I'm devastated. To get so close and not to be able to get to the start line is gutting, not only for myself, but also for the team.
"I came here to win gold, but unfortunately I'm not in the position to do that. I'm unable to perform the technical skills I need to compete at these championships."
