Maccarinelli gets to work on Azzaoui

WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli targeted the winner of David Haye v Jean-Marc Mormeck after despatching Mohamed Azzaoui on Sunday.

"If Mormeck wins, it's definitely a fight that can be made," said Maccarinelli's promoter Frank Warren.

"But if Haye wins, it's a bit more problematic because he's turned down big money to fight Enzo once before."

Londoner Haye faces Mormeck for the Frenchman's WBC and WBA titles on Saturday in Paris.

"I hope Haye wins because there would be no excuse for him not to fight Enzo in February or March," said Warren. "That would be a huge match-up for British fans."

A potential bout with Swansea's Maccarinelli could be scuppered by Haye's problems making the weight, and he has targeted a move to heavyweight after the Mormeck bout.

But Maccarinelli, whose power punching stopped late stand-in Azzaoui in the fourth round in Cardiff, is hopeful that major bouts are now firmly in his focus.

"I think that the big fights are happening more in boxing because you've got a rival sport in Mixed Martial Arts and we have to compete," said Maccarinelli, who plans to be ringside in Paris.

"I've always said that I'll fight anyone, I want to be the undisputed champion. I've seen what Joe Calzaghe has done and I want a bit of that."

Trainer Enzo Calzaghe is sure that Maccarinelli is already the leading cruiserweight in the world.

"His power has always been without question, he has an equaliser in both hands," said Calzaghe, who is credited with transforming Maccarinelli in the past year.

"But now he also has a superb jab and is a fantastic boxer, he's the finished product.
