Roundwatch: Hatton v Maussa
All the action as Ricky Hatton knocks out Carlos Maussa in the ninth round of their unification match in Sheffield.

Round nine: Massau is absolutely poleaxed by a left-hander just a minute into the round. The Colombian immediately crashes to his knees. Referee Micky Vann goes up to Massau and duly counts him out of the contest.

The crowd goes wild for Hatton as he celebrates with his corner, his family and his friends. A deserving victory for the Mancunian, who maintains his unbeaten career record.

Round eight: Massau, whose right eye is now swelling up, tries to throw everything at his rival from the outset of the round, knowing full well he's behind in this contest.

It causes a minor blip for Hatton, who then tidies up his style and throws a flurry of punches from close range to further exhaust the WBA welterweight champion.

Round seven: The occasional stumble causes a brief hiccup in Hatton's rhythm but halfway through the round he gets Massau on the ropes. He punishes him but all too briefly as the Colombian pulls himself clear.

Going into the final minute of the round Hatton smacks his opponent with a brutal left hook. That's backed up by a sharp left jab. You can sense that one hurt, judging by Massau's reaction.

Round six: Massau's bleeding as well now - just under his right eye - but it doesn't look too serious.

He's physically being slowly eroded now. He spends a lot of the round with his arms slumped by his side as the tiredness begins to kick in.

In contrast, Hatton, although not quite at peak form at the moment, still lands a good mixture of shots. Both men end the round by throwing and landing a punch apiece after the bell.

Round five: Hatton walks onto a couple of hooks right from the bell. But that seems to give him extra zest.

Defensively he's got his fight down to a tee - he weaves his way around nicely to evade Massau's clutches. After a few laboured efforts in the fifth round, he starts connecting.

Massau's clearly tiring but you get the impression he still has a monster blow within his armoury.

Round four: Both men are warned to watch their heads within the opening 10 seconds of the round. They duly oblige and Hatton's cuts don't seem to be troubling him so much anymore.

Massau's throwing some lazy punches - almost more like lunges than anything. Hatton is finding his range far better - a jab midway through the round arguably his best shot of the night so far.

The crowd are chanting Hatton's name now. There's a monstrous amount of noise.

Round three: Things are looking precarious for Hatton now. He's got another cut after a head clash - this time ahead of his right eye. It looks bad and Maussa looks to be smiling about the whole thing.

Despite that blow, the Mancunian dominates the round but his corner still have a lot to do to stem the flow of blood and keep him in the fight.

Massau is castigated by referee Micky Vann for using the back of his glove to further inflict damage on Hatton's latest cut.

Round two: After another tentative start, Hatton lands two back-to-back hits that cause Maussa to stumble back briefly. And a tad later he combines for a trio of punches that once again sent the Colombian stumbling.

While Maussa's not quite as technically accurate, he's still throwing and landing the odd blow to his opponent. Meanwhile, Hatton's cut is still bleeding.

Round one: Both men land some hefty body punches but, in an early blow to Hatton, he suffers a cut above his left eye from a clash of heads - a problem that has haunted him during his career.

After that, the two men thrash at each other recklessly for a moment. A slightly clumsy first round.
