MK Dons have signed midfielder Jay Matete from Premier League club Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old is the club's second signing of the January transfer window, following Thursday's arrival of Ben Wiles from Huddersfield Town.
Matete made 25 appearances for Sunderland but has been out on loan at Plymouth Argyle, Oxford United and Bolton Wanderers in the past three seasons.
"I want to get MK Dons up through the leagues. There's a real good project going on here," he said.
"There's an ambition at the club, and I've got that real good feeling about it. So I just want to be there throughout the whole journey."
MK Dons face Oxford in the FA Cup on Friday evening and will resume their League Two campaign away to Accrington Stanley on 17 January.
"We feel this is the moment for Jay to find a new home and establish a foundation for him to play regularly," said Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman.
"This is a very good opportunity at a club with progressive ambitions and who are well-placed in the league for promotion."
