Richard Goode plays Beethoven and Schumann
Martin Handley presents the American pianist Richard Goode performing two of Beethoven's later piano sonatas with the 6 Bagatelles, Op.126. Plus Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze.
The American pianist Richard Goode is especially known for his emotionally powerful interpretations of Mozart and Beethoven, and in tonight's programme he pairs two of Beethoven's later piano sonatas with the 6 Bagatelles, Op.126, of which Beethoven said were 'probably the best I've written'. In the second half of the concert, Richard Goode plays Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze, a work dedicated to Clara Wieck, with whom he had just got secretly engaged.
Presented by Martin Handley and recorded on 30th September at Wigmore Hall in London.
