Man, 93, dies after being hit by a car

A 93-year-old man has died in hospital after being hit by a car in Kilmarnock.

Emergency services were called to Fowlds Street in the town centre at about 02:40 on Wednesday after the pedestrian was struck by a green BMW 525 TDS Touring.

The man was taken to hospital but died on Thursday.

The road was closed for seven hours to allow for investigations.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash cam or private CCTV footage to come forward.

Sergeant Brian Simpson, of Ayrshire Roads Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died as a result of this crash."
