All dry recycling collections have been temporarily suspended by a council.

Central Bedfordshire Council said a firm it worked with, away from the collection of bins, had suspended its service at short notice.

Residents are being asked not to put out their orange-lidded and green-lidded bins for collection from Monday.

Tracey Wye, the independently run council's executive member for sustainability and climate resilience, said it was working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue.

"The council is working flat out to try to resolve this as quickly as possible, to minimise the impact on residents," she said.

"We will update the council website, and social media, as soon as there is more information."

Central Bedfordshire Council said it hoped the disruption would only last "for a few days".

It has advised residents they can book a slot at their local Household Waste Recycling Centre, which will take cardboard, paper, tins and cans for recycling.

Otherwise, they are being asked to store their recycling at home until normal collections are resumed.
