Charity shares dementia-friendly Christmas tips
PA MediaA Jersey charity has advised people to stick to familiar routines and "take it one step at a time" if they are caring for someone with dementia this Christmas.
Dementia Jersey said while Christmas can be one of the most magical times of year, it can also be very challenging for the estimated 1,600 people living with the condition in Jersey and their loved ones.
It warned that Christmas Day could be very busy and noisy which is overwhelming for people with dementia. It has suggested keeping one room as a quiet space where they can feel relaxed.
The charity also recommended avoiding unnecessary noise such as crackers and loud music and keeping the day's activities as simple as possible.
It has advised carers to plan ahead so as not to get caught out if GPs, pharmacies and dentists have reduced opening hours over the holidays.
Other advice for a dementia-friendly Christmas includes being mindful of food for those who have difficulty eating and bringing back old memories by playing some of their favourite festive music or a classic film.
Dementia Jersey said its advice to care givers was to try to enjoy the day "for what it is" and accept any help offered.
