Brit witnessed Bondi attack from his apartment
A Bristol man who witnessed the Bondi Beach shooting said he feared the attackers may try to enter his apartment block.
Finn Green, a Formula 3 driver who arrived in Sydney on 9 December for a holiday at the end of the motorsport season, said he saw people being injured and killed from his property overlooking the beach.
Fifteen people, many of them attending a Hanukkah celebration, were killed in the attack on Sunday, as well as one of the two gunmen.
Mr Green, who had been speaking to his family on a video call when the shooting began, praised the "love" shown in the area after the attack.
"I was right on the hotspot," Mr Green told BBC Radio Bristol. "I tried to watch as much as I possibly could.
"I was seeing people obviously drop down and get injured, I saw three people get killed - they weren't moving."
Without knowing the nature of the attack, Mr Green said he feared the gunmen might attempt to get into his apartment building.
"I just tried to get as much cover as possible - my door was actually open at the time so I had to run and lock it," he added.
"I was also thinking whether I should go down and help people because there were people in front of my apartment block that were injured," he said.
"I didn't know if I should go [down] and do something, or if I'm in the way because I started seeing ambulances. It was just a mental, mental situation."
ReutersDespite the horror of what he witnessed, Mr Green said the outpouring of love in the local community had been "amazing" following the attack.
"Everyone's giving everyone hugs, there's so much support from everyone," he said, describing how five-hour-long queues had formed outside blood donation centres and coffee shops were giving out free drinks.
While he has spent the nights since the attack staying with friends, Mr Green told the BBC he planned to return to the apartment and continue his holiday as planned.
"My mum's not really slept much, but I've been trying to reassure her that everything's OK and that there is a lot of security around on on my street - there's police everywhere," he said.
"I think currently right now it's probably, if anything, one of the safest places to be."
