Parrot rescued from tree in first flight drama

Peggy refused efforts by locals to coax her down so specially-trained firefighters came to her rescue

A parrot has been reunited with her owner after she "decided to wing it on her very first flight" and got stuck up a tree, a fire service said.

Residents at Webb Court in Witham, Essex, tried to coax Peggy down on Thursday, calling the fire service for help at 10:15 BST when she ignored their efforts.

Specially-trained animal rescue crews used an aerial ladder platform to reach the bird.

A fire service spokesperson said the crews decided to "squawk about it", before handing Peggy over to her relieved owner at about 11:40 BST.
