People are being warned to take care as three flood warnings have been issued for parts of Cumbria.

The Environment Agency (EA) is urging people to avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water, as flooding is expected in parts of Keswick and Ulverston.

A yellow weather warning for rain is active in the county until midnight, with 12 flood alerts also in place.

It comes after Cumberland Council warned earlier that localised flooding had made some roads impassable.

Flood warnings have been issued for:

  • Dragley and Lunds Becks at South Ulverston - with low lying areas and property close to the area, including Steel Street, North Lonsdale Road, Cross Lane and Kennedy Street areas
  • Dragley Beck at Ulverston from Dragley Beck Bridge on Well Lane downstream to South Ulverston - with low lying areas and property close to Rydal Road, Watery Lane, Fitz Bridge, Morecambe Road, Rope Walk and parts of South Ulverston at Low Mill Bridge, South View Farm and Outcast
  • Keswick Campsite - locations most affected will be Keswick Campsite flooding from the lake.

The EA says it is closely monitoring the river levels and is urging people to contact its flood helpline if needed.

The roads the council has warned people to avoid are the St Bees to Egremont road at Outrigg; the A5086 junction with Dalzell Street near Egremont; Kingmoor Road, Carlisle, at the railway bridge; Houghton Road at Houghton and Stockbridge Road between Newbiggin and Stubb Place.

A spokesman for the council urged people to drive to the conditions.

"Please do not drive through flood water, if in doubt, turn around," he said.

Flood alerts are in place for:

  • The Lower River Eden, through Carlisle to the Solway Firth at Rockcliffe
  • The Middle River Eden, including Langwathby, Lazonby, Kirkoswald, Armathwaite, Wetheral and Warwick-on-Eden
