Calm space opens for nursing students
University of PlymouthA new sensory study room has opened to give healthcare students a quiet, supportive space while they train for their careers.
The room, based in the library at the Knowledge Spa, at the Truro School of Nursing, is equipped with items designed to help students focus and feel calm, including a weighted blanket, coloured lights, fidget toys and books.
The idea came from Sinead Blowers, subject librarian at Cornwall Health Library, and Ally James, lecturer in adult nursing, who wanted to create a bookable space for students as well as anyone looking for a peaceful spot to study.
Ms James said she wanted to ensure students were "fully supported throughout their journey with us" and it was"great to see the space finally in use".
The room was officially opened at a small ceremony where students Leon Witton, Chloe Sieley and Lucy Allen cut the ribbon.
It is available to anyone using the Knowledge Spa, including students from the Peninsula Dental School.
