A cyclist has died after a collision involving a van.

The incident took place on Furrlongs in Newport on the Isle Of Wight and involved an electrically-assisted red pushbike and a black Ford Transit van at about 16:30 GMT on Monday.

The cyclist, a 44-year-old man from Newport, was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he later died.

Prior to the cyclist's death, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary arrested a 63-year-old man from Godshill on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving.

He has been released under investigation while officers carry out further enquiries.

Police say the cyclist's family is being supported by specially-trained officers.

The force appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision, or with relevant dash cam, CCTV or doorbell camera footage to come forward.
