Locals become drag queens for charity calendar

A group of villagers have discovered their drag alter egos in their mission to create a charity calendar.

The group of men from Christian Malford, near Chippenham, Wiltshire, took part in the photoshoot to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Teaming up with Sam Compton, resident drag artist at the Flying Monk in Chippenham, the group took their inspiration from local events and landmarks.

Organiser Ian Powell-Brown, who posed in the village pub and became 'Paula Pint', said villagers "jumped at the chance" to take part.

He told BBC Radio Wiltshire it "wasn't tough at all" to find people to get involved, including farmers, village shop-keepers, retirees and car salesmen.

"There are some real characters here and we have a lot of things going on, from scarecrow trails to duck races. We also have a group called the Malford players who put on various productions," he added.

Shot in September, about 850 images were taken across various locations across the village, before being whittled down to 12.

Each month of the calendar represents a different place or event in the village, such as a month for the Christian Malford duck race.

"We had a great few days doing it, it was a real laugh," said Mr Powell-Brown.
